The 2011 Padoh Mahn Sha Young Leader Award call for nominees

The Phan Foundation has officially announced their acceptance of nominees for the 4th year of Padoh Mahn Sha Young Leader Award until the cut-off on January 31, 2012.

The Padoh Mahn Sha Young Leader Award is given annually to Karen community workers who work in health, education, social or cultural areas. According to the Foundation criteria, nominees should be Karen aged under 35 and nominations should include name, place, field of work and why they should be awarded the Young Leader Award.

Saw Say Say Phan, a founding member of the Phan Foundation said the initial deadline and awarding day was to be on January, 31- on Karen Revolution Day. However, this year, the deadline has been moved to January 31, 2012 and the awarding day at the 9th Karen Unity Seminar scheduled to be held sometime in early 2012.

The award winners are honored with certificates and a grant of USD $2,000.

The award was set-up by the children of in memory of their father, Padoh Mahn Sha Lar Phan, a former General Secretary of the Karen National Union, who was assassinated in February 2007.

Recent winners were Naw Paw Ka Bla Htoo, a social worker from Nyaunglebin District in 2008, Saw Nyunt Win, a health worker from Papun District in 2009 and Naw December Paw, a health worker from Megui/Tavoy District in 2010.

Saw Say Say Phan said that the three winners of Padoh Mahn Shan Young Leader Award are now working hard in their respective fields.

“The three award winners are working hard under very difficult circumstances, but they continue to devote themselves in their works for their community.”

The Phan Foundation was formed in February 14, 2008 by four children of Mahn Sha Lah Phan; Saw Say Say Phan, Nant Bwa Bwa Phan, Nant Zoya Phan and S’ Lote Phan in memory of their loving mother, Nant Kyin Shwe and father, Mahn Sha Lah Phan.
