KNU leaders to ask President U Thein Sein to stop Kachin conflict

Karen National Union leaders left today from the Thai-Burma border to travel to Naypyidaw to meet with President Thein Sein to discuss war in ethnic areas.

The KNU Supreme Headquarters issued a statement confirming the trip and said they had received an invitation from President U Thein Sein. A number of the KNU’s newly elected leaders left from their border headquarters to meet with Burma’s President U Thein Sein in Naypyidaw.

The delegation is led by General Mutu Say Poe, the KNU chairman, other members include general secretary, Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, joint secretary 2, Podoh Mahn Mahn, Padoh Mahn Nyein Maung and Padoh Saw Hla Tun.

The KNU statement said that its delegation plans to ask President U Thein Sein to stop the ongoing offensives in ethnic areas. The KNU delegation agenda will also include the next stage in it’s about peace building process with the government.

The KNU statement stressed that whatever agreements are reached with the president they will be first discussed within the KNU organization and then a public statement released.
