Myanmar Junta Launches Three Days of Heavy Airstrikes in Northern Kawkareik
Myanmar’s military junta launched three consecutive days of airstrikes on villages in northern Kawkareik Township, Karen State, using fighter jets and Y-12 transport aircraft to drop dozens of heavy bombs, according to local sources and resistance fighters.

The attacks, which ran from Oct. 6 to Oct. 8, targeted villages including Htihpoezan, Miparle, Myapataing, and Kwimaungtaing.
The area is located in Dooplaya (Kawkareik) District, an operational territory of Brigade 6 of the Karen National Union (KNU).
On the morning of Oct. 8 alone, junta aircraft dropped at least 50 bombs.
“The junta carried out airstrikes with fighter jets for three straight days,” said a volunteer assisting displaced residents. “At around 5:00 a.m. on Oct. 8, a Y-12 aircraft dropped about 50 bombs, damaging homes and yards. Junta forces have also been conducting drone strikes here since late September.”
Most villagers had preemptively fled to safer areas before the bombing intensified, making it difficult to immediately verify casualties or assess the full scale of structural damage.
Local sources added that regime troops stationed at a school and monastery in nearby Kawthpaung Village have also been launching weaponized drone strikes on surrounding communities.
“The junta seems intent on destroying Htihpoezan after failing in its ground offensive,” a resistance fighter said. “They are dropping bombs as if to erase the entire village. We still cannot enter to assess casualties.”
On the evening of Oct. 7, a fighter jet dropped a 500-pound bomb on Kwimaungtaing Village.
Frontline resistance sources reported that Military Operations Command 12 (MOC 12) has shelled Htihpoezan and Kwimaungtaing with multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), while heavy artillery units from Infantry Battalion 230, Yinkwetaung Hilltop base, and the Hlaingwa base bombarded the area with howitzers.
Ongoing clashes and heavy bombardment in Kawkareik Township have kept more than 2,000 residents displaced since September 2025.
