State Counsellor’s Peace Talk in Hpa-an Postponed Indefinitely, Visited Flood Victims Instead

The State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi’s peace talk in Hpa-an has been postponed indefinitely due to bad weather, instead the State Counsellor visited flood victims in relief camps in the Karen State’s capital.

The peace talk was originally scheduled to be held between the State Counsellor and local ethnic youths, computer experts, and civil society organizations at Zwekabin Hall on July 26.

U Min Tin Win, Mon Ethnic Affair Minister said that the change made to the trip’s agenda was because of the worsening flood condition in Karen State.

“Although the initial purpose was to hold the peace talk, the flooding in Karen State got severe, so the focus of the trip change to visiting and inspecting flood situation.” U Min Tin told Karen News.

The peace talk has been held seven times since 2017, twice in Naypyidaw and once in Panglong, Shan State, Myay Tai Kan Village of Wundwin Township, Mandalay Region, Loikaw, Karenni (Kayah) State, Myaungmya Township, Ayeyarwady Region, and Mawlamyine, Mon State.
