July Sees Ongoing Government Offensives in Kachin and Shan States

The Burma Army is continuing with concerted military offensives in ethnic areas says a report by the frontline humanitarian organisation, Free Burma Rangers.

Burma Army soldiers attacked Mali Yang in Northern Shan State and villagers have reported human rights abuses including torture, killings, force labour and sacking of villages.

FBR’s frontline teams have documented 59 clashes in July, including two attacks by fighter jets, leaving at least 110 killed and injured, including civilians and soldiers.

In one incident recorded on July 13, indiscriminate mortar fire by Burma Army positions in Pangsang Township hit and killed a villager. The mortar fire also wounded a married couple in Kawng Hka village who were farming at the time of the attack.
