Despite bad weather KNU open third liaison office

This morning the Karen National Union officially opened its third liaison office in Three Pagoda Pass Town, Dooplaya District, Karen State to help cooperation between the KNU and the Burma government.

KNU sources said that the liaison office will make working with the Burma Army to put the agreed ceasefire arrangements in place a lot easier and more practical. The liaison office in Three Pagoda Pass will serve as the branch office for the Dooplaya District while the main liaison office for the area, which will be opened in the near future, will be based in Kyaikdon Town.

Seniors officials from the Burma government, including Railway Minister U Aung Min, Immigration and Population Minister U Khin Ye and Karen State Minister U Zaw Min attended the office opening. Karen National Liberation Army Chief of Staff, General Mutue Say Poe, Secretary of KNU peace committee Padoh David Taw, KNU peace committee member Padoh Roger Khin and senior officers from KNU Districts and KNLA Brigades represented the KNU.

A 7th Brigade KNLA officer, spoke to Karen News at the ceremony said.

“There was rain, but it didn’t dampen the mood of the ceremony in anyway. Despite the weather well over 2,000 people turned up to support the ceremony.”

On April 9 and 10, the KNU opened two liaison offices – one at Kyaukgyi Town in Pegu Division and one at Dawei Town in Tenniserrim Division.
