Korean group donate to Karen village primary school

A Korea Christian group made the long journey from their homeland to to Kyay Poe Kee village, Hlaingbwe Township in Karen State tearlier this month to make a donation to the at school.

The group led by Roman Catholic priest, Father Kin, visited a primary school at Kyay Poe Kee and donated clothes, toys, snacks, toothpaste, soap and food such as yellow bean, dry fish and vegetables.

Saw Hsa Klo, from Karen Youth Organization helped the Korean group told Karen News.
“They [the Korean group] ask me about the school situation inside Burma and were interested to go to Kyay Poe Kee primary school.”

The Korean group spent time at the school teaching and playing together football, cane ball and the flute with the school children. A doctor traveling with the group volunteered to see and treat about 30 patients, both adult and children who had minor skin problems and colds and influenza.

Saw Has Klo said teachers from the primary school requested help from the Korean group to find volunteer donors to repair the school roof.

About 100 students study at Kyay Poe Kee primary school. There are four unpaid volunteer teachers are teaching primary grade up to grade 5.

Saw Mu K’paw, the primary school head thanked the Korean group for their donation and interest in the school.

“We thank them for helping our children who are really keen to study. We may need them in the future to support our children’s education.”

In 2009, the Kyay Poe Kee schoolchildren had to flee fighting in their homeland and took the temporary shelter on the Thai border.
